Creating a Donation Campaign

The Donate Now app allows merchants to create fundraising campaigns that encourage customers to support charitable causes directly from the storefront.

To create a new campaign

  • Navigate to Shopify Admin → Apps → Donate Now.
  • Click Create Campaign.
  • A pop-up will appear asking you to choose a campaign type.

The app currently supports two campaign types:

  • Campaign Donation Block
  • Round-Off Donations

Each campaign type is designed for a different donation experience.

Campaign Types

Campaign Donation Block

The Campaign Donation Block creates a dedicated donation widget that lets customers contribute with preset or custom amounts.

This campaign type supports features such as:

  • Campaign title and description
  • Fundraising goals
  • Multiple donation causes
  • Preset donation amounts
  • Custom donation amounts
  • Processing fee support
  • Organization branding

This option is ideal for merchants running fundraising campaigns or charity drives.

Round-Off Donations

The Round-Off Donations campaign allows customers to round up their order total at checkout and donate the difference.

For example:

  • If a customer’s cart total is $24.65, they can round it up to $25.00 and donate $0.35.

This campaign type provides a simple, frictionless way to collect small donations at checkout.

Campaign Donation Block – Campaign Settings

The Campaign Donation Block settings allow merchants to create fully customized fundraising campaigns. Configure campaign details, donation amounts, fundraising goals, supported causes, and optional processing fees to create an engaging donation experience.

How to Access

  • Shopify AdminApps Donate Now
  • Click Create Campaign
  • Select Campaign Donation Block.
  • Click Use Template.

The campaign setup is divided into four sections:

  • Basics
  • Goals
  • Contribution
  • Fees

Basics

The Basics section defines the core information and visibility of your donation campaign.

Campaign Visibility

Control whether the campaign is available to customers.

Toggle options:

Active

The campaign becomes visible on the storefront.

Draft

The campaign is saved but remains hidden until activate

Campaign Title

  • Enter a clear and engaging title for your fundraising campaign.
  • The title appears at the top of the donation popup.
  • Example:
  • Make a Difference Today
  • Character limits are applied to ensure proper display.

Campaign Description

Provide information explaining your campaign.

Describe:

  • The purpose of the fundraiser
  • How donations will be used
  • The impact donors can make

A rich text editor is available for formatting content.

Supported formatting includes:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Lists
  • Alignment
  • Links

Schedule Campaign

Schedule your campaign to automatically start and end on specific dates.

Enable this option to define:

  • Start Date
  • End Date

Disable this option if the campaign should remain active until manually turned off.

Branding Logo

Upload your organization’s logo.

Supported image formats:

  • JPG
  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • WEBP

Maximum file size:

  • 5 MB

The uploaded logo is displayed at the top of the donation campaign.

Goals

The Goals section allows you to configure fundraising objectives and organize donation causes.

Fundraising Goal

  • Enable this option to display a fundraising target.
  • When enabled, additional settings become available, allowing you to define the fundraising goal and configure what happens once the goal has been reached.

The following options will appear:

  • Custom Goal Amount
  • After Goal Reached

When disabled, these settings remain hidden and no fundraising goal is displayed on the storefront.

Custom Goal Amount

  • Enter the total amount you aim to raise through the campaign.

Example:

  • 2,500

This value is used as the fundraising target displayed to customer

After Goal Reached

Choose how the campaign should behave after the fundraising goal has been achieved.

Toggle options:

  • Enabled → Displays a success message or banner after the fundraising goal is reached.
  • Disabled → No message is shown after reaching the fundraising target.

When After Goal Reached is enabled, an additional field becomes available:

Goal Reached Message

Enter the message displayed to customers once the fundraising goal has been achieved.

Example:

We did it together! Thank you for helping us reach our goal and make a real impact.

This message is shown to thank donors and celebrate reaching the campaign goal.

Campaign Causes

Add one or more causes supported by your campaign.

Examples include:

  • Emergency Relief
  • Children’s Education
  • Medical Support
  • Clean Water
  • Food Assistance

To add a cause:

  • Enter the cause name.
  • Click Add Cause.

Customers can select a cause before making a donation.

Contribution

The Contribution section controls how customers choose their donation amount.

Preset Donation Amounts

Create quick-select donation buttons.

Example amounts:

  • $5
  • $10
  • $25
  • $50

To add a preset amount:

  • Enter the donation value.
  • Click Add Amount.

Enable Custom Donation Amounts

Allow customers to enter their own donation amount instead of selecting only the predefined donation values.

Toggle options:

  • Enabled → Customers can manually enter any donation amount.
  • Disabled → Customers can only choose from the preset donation amounts.

When Enable Custom Donation Amounts is enabled, an additional option becomes available:

  • Set Minimum & Maximum Donation Amount Limits

When disabled, the donation limit settings remain hidden.

Set Minimum & Maximum Donation Amount Limits

Enable this option to restrict the range of custom donation amounts that customers can enter.

Toggle options:

  • Enabled → Allows you to define the minimum and maximum donation amounts.
  • Disabled → Customers can enter any custom donation amount without restrictions.

When Set Minimum & Maximum Donation Amount Limits is enabled, the following fields become available:

Minimum Donation Amount

Enter the lowest donation amount a customer can contribute.

Example:

  • 5

Customers will not be able to donate less than this value.

Maximum Donation Amount

Enter the highest donation amount a customer can contribute.

Example:

  • 500

Customers will not be able to donate more than this value.

Fees

Configure optional payment processing fees.

Transaction Fee

Enable this option to allow donors to cover the payment processing fee in addition to their donation amount.

This helps offset transaction charges typically applied by payment providers.

Toggle options:

  • Enabled → Displays processing fee settings and applies the configured fee during checkout.
  • Disabled → Customers are charged only the donation amount, and no processing fee is added.

When Transaction Fee is enabled, the following settings become available:

  • Fee Percentage
  • Fee Label

Fee Percentage

Specify the percentage of the donation amount to be used as the processing fee.

Example:

  • 2
  • 2.5
  • 3

Typical payment processors charge between 2–3%.

Enter 0 if you do not want to apply a processing fee.

The calculated fee is added to the donation amount during checkout when the feature is enabled.

Fee Label

Enter the label displayed to donors for the processing fee during checkout.

Default example:

Processing Fee

You can customize the label to better match your store’s terminology.

Examples include:

  • Payment Processing Fee
  • Service Fee
  • Donation Processing Fee

Character limits apply to ensure the label displays correctly during checkout.

Saving the Campaign

After configuring all settings:

Click Save Campaign.

Depending on the selected visibility:

  • Draft → Campaign is saved but hidden.
  • Active → Campaign becomes available on the storefront immed

Round-Off Donations – Campaign Settings

The Round-Off Donations campaign allows merchants to collect small donations by giving customers the option to round up their order total during checkout. The difference between the original order total and the rounded amount is donated to your selected cause.

How to Access

  • Shopify AdminApps Donate Now
  • Click Create Campaign
  • Select Round-Off Donations.
  • Click Use Template.

Basics

The Basics section allows you to configure the core information and visibility of your Round-Off Donations campaign.

Use this field to describe:

  • The purpose of the fundraiser.
  • How the donated amount will be used.
  • The impact customers can make by rounding up their purchase.

The description editor supports rich text formatting.

Available formatting includes:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Lists
  • Alignment
  • Links

Schedule Campaign

When enabled, you can define:

  • Start Date
  • End Date

When disabled, the campaign remains active until it is manually turned off.

Goals

The Goals section allows you to define a fundraising target for your Round-Off Donations campaign.

Fundraising Goal

Enable this option to display a fundraising goal and track donation progress.

When enabled, customers can see how close the campaign is to reaching its target.

The following option becomes available:

  • Custom Goal Amount

When disabled, no fundraising goal is displayed.

Custom Goal Amount

Enter the total amount you aim to raise through the campaign.

Example:

  • 2,500

This value is used as the fundraising target displayed to customers.
