The WordPress team behind the WordPress 7.0 release has decided to remove real-time collaboration from WordPress 7.0. At present, they are not confident in the current approach in Core, citing concerns related to server load, memory efficiency, surface area, race conditions, and the continual bugs discovered through fuzz testing.
This isn’t an easy decision, but an appropriate one, especially given the effort and time invested in the feature. However, the team continues to work to ensure a reliable, steady WordPress 7.0 release for our users. The good thing is that the feature is being optimized, and the team is continuously working on it.
The release schedule will remain the same, and further updates will be released if this feature needs to be launched.
Testing and Future Release Plans
Real-time collaboration remains a key and powerful feature for WordPress. Once the immediate-release work is complete, a comprehensive testing plan will be provided to launch and include the feature in a future release.
