WooCommerce 10.9

WooCommerce 10.9 release date has been announced: June 23, 2026. WooCommerce 10.9 is a performance-centric release with a range of new features and improvements.

This blog post will discuss how these improvements and features will impact developers and store owners.

Performance Improvements

An enhanced checkout flow helps store owners reduce load on their databases. This will specifically boost store performance, especially as they scale.

Other Features and Improvements

WooCommerce 10.9 comprises improved admin screens, transactional email logging, experimental and beta features, and, importantly, canonical WooCommerce capabilities that facilitate AI and automation.

Now, we will describe these performance improvements and other crucial features separately.

Less Checkout Churn and Lower Database Pressure

WooCommerce 10.9 prioritizes enhancing performance across stores. Now, the draft order will be created when shoppers are close to clicking “Place Order”.  Previously, the draft order was created as soon as the shopper visited the checkout page.

This will simplify and reduce the load on the database by reducing the number of orphaned draft rows.

Streamlined Woo Admin Screens

The WooCommerce admin looks cleaner now. The Woo admin header now aligns better with the WordPress design system across the dashboard; smaller-screen dashboard states get targeted fixes, and modals get a unified style throughout the admin.

Most Woo admin pages don’t have the task list reminder bar. However, users can still access setup guidance from the Woo dashboard and the activity panel.

Transactional Email Troubleshooting in Core

In the past, troubleshooting transactional emails often began with installing a separate email logging plugin or sending a new test email. WooCommerce now offers transactional email logging in the core. Furthermore, email attempts are accessible in WooCommerce > Status > Logs, along with send outcomes and local failure reasons where available.

Experimental and Beta Features

The “Radical Speed Month” at Automattic has ensured that WooCommerce 10.9 has an abundance of experimental and beta features.

These include much-anticipated features such as the canonical WooCommerce abilities for products, orders, and extensions. Moreover, users can experience visual attributes and color swatches, experimental product management, and more.

Canonical WooCommerce Abilities for Products, Orders, and Extensions

WooCommerce 10.9 proudly launches the first canonical WooCommerce domain abilities for product and order operations. These abilities help explain WooCommerce capabilities such as querying orders, updating order status, querying products, developing or updating products, and adding order notes.

As a result, other tools, including AI assistants, can conduct various tasks such as managing products or updating and checking orders in stores. Moreover, each task follows simple rules about who is supposed to do what and whether it only sees information or changes it.

Apart from AI assistants, these abilities work across admin tools, the command line, and automation systems.

In short, WooCommerce 10.9 enables stores with simple yet effective rule-based definitions that let AI assistants efficiently handle tasks such as order and product management.

Experimental Product Management and Product Editor V2 Retirement

The experimental product catalog editor has matured in WooCommerce 10.9. The release comprises improved drawer and URL state handling, more type-aware quick-edit fields, product list refinements, crash recovery, and stronger variation editing.

The broader direction for this work is outlined in Reimagining catalog management, which describes the DataViews-based product list experiment and the feedback WooCommerce is seeking.

Furthermore, the block-based product editor beta and its extension APIs are deprecated ahead of their planned removal in WooCommerce 11.0. Extension developers who use such APIs should audit usage now and plan a migration path.

The dedicated advisory and the product editor beta will be shelved in WooCommerce 11.0, along with the migration timeline and API audit guidance. Remember, this does not impact any product data or content in WooCommerce.

Variation Image Galleries

Developers can experience native variation image galleries in WooCommerce 10.9. However, the feature is disabled by default behind the Variation gallery toggle in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features. Therefore, they will need to follow these settings to activate it.

Users can also check the roadmap post on variation image galleries, which includes migration notes, a rollout plan, and background information on the REST API.

Visual Attributes and Color Swatches

WooCommerce 10.9 introduces another key feature: visual attributes and color swatches. Hence, developers and store owners can showcase product options as images rather than text via visual attributes and color swatches.

This will help improve the shopping experience, allowing buyers to better understand and select product variations.

This feature now has a dedicated roadmap post that discusses the introduction of color swatches in WooCommerce core.

Shopper Collections: Wishlist and Save for Later

The shopper collections branch launches saved-for-later in the cart, a wishlist under My Account, blocks for rendering and interaction, Store API support at /wc/store/v1/shopper-lists/, and programmatic APIs through ShopperList and ShopperListItem.

The shopper collections feature is still a work in progress. Hence, you should carefully test the feature.

Block-Based Email Editor Template Updates

The block-based email editor is mature and now supports email template updates and user overrides. The editor can identify core template updates and help merchants or store owners implement such updates without affecting customizations.

This email editor contains auto-apply behavior for unmodified templates, selective apply, undo, update indicators in the email list and editor, a change-summary endpoint, and a three-way diff for customized templates.

Back In Stock Notifications

Back in stock notification is still a work in progress; it is in early alpha and is currently gated by WOOCOMMERCE_BIS_ALPHA_ENABLED. In WooCommerce 10.9, customers can now get confirmation and verification emails upon signing up for back-in-stock alerts.

Customer Review Request

The customer review request email and related page template have received a few updates since their introduction as experimental features in WooCommerce 10.8. The feature is accessible either when the customer_review_request feature flag is enabled or by enabling it in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features.

Experimental Dual API and GraphQL infrastructure

WooCommerce 10.9 offers an experimental dual API and GraphQL infrastructure for developers to test on PHP 8.1 or newer. The idea behind this initiative is to explain an authoritative code API in PHP classes, then produce a matching GraphQL API from those classes during development. Executable classes become queries and mutations, whereas DTOs emerge as input and output types.

In core, the initial API is limited to products and coupons. Moreover, the infrastructure is of particular interest to extension developers, as plugins can describe their own PHP API classes, include GraphQL support, and register a GraphQL endpoint using WooCommerce’s provided utilities.

Wrapping Up

WooCommerce 10.9 will be released on June 23, 2026. Store owners can benefit from smoother, faster checkout, cleaner admin screens, and effective canonical WooCommerce capabilities.

All these power-packed features and enhancements significantly improve your store’s productivity, making it faster and more optimized.
