The Challenges

NAFT wanted Objects to create a new website and mobile application for a gas station brand with industry-standard main features but with better UI, enhance its functionality, and address UX issues of the website to attract new users. It wanted to solidify the brand loyalty of returning users as well.

A key objective of the website and mobile app combo was to go paperless in NAFT operations. The gas station brand wanted to give more control to users while simultaneously digitizing all business and transaction records. NAFT required eCommerce features on its site for sales of its fuel cards.

Stepping into the digital realm to transact with customers would be a relatively new experience for NAFT. To build trust with customers and safeguard sensitive financial data, it wanted robust security on its eCommerce website and its mobile applications.

To achieve this, NAFT needed:

  • Input validation for personal and vehicle(s) data. Validation checks on fields like payment info, vehicle details, and delivery addresses reduce errors and fraud.

  • Encryption with SSL/TLS to protect sensitive data (like credit card details) from being intercepted.

  • The system to securely handle payments via credit cards, bank transfers, or mobile wallets. PCI-DSS compliance was required.

  • The system should send immediate confirmation, including transaction receipts, so customers can verify purchases.

NAFT knew the importance of its eCommerce website and mobile applications being able to handle increased usage volume as awareness and adoption of the platforms would grow. Given the growth of physical NAFT gas stations across Saudi Arabia’s major cities, it was a given that the load on NAFT’s servers, website, and app would grow.

  • Corporate clients manage large fleets. They may purchase multiple fuel cards in bulk or track fuel usage for hundreds of vehicles.

  • Fleet managers depend on real-time data and reports to track fuel card usage. A scalable system ensures that reports can still be generated quickly without delays or system crashes as the number of vehicles or transactions increases.

For NAFT, effective records management ensures the accurate, secure, and compliant handling of transaction data, customer information, and usage reports while supporting operational efficiency and customer trust.

  • Every fuel card purchase generates transaction records. Information must be securely stored and easily retrievable for future reference for invoicing, complaint resolution, or audit purposes.

  • Billing records for corporate clients may be more complex, involving bulk fuel card purchases, usage-based billing, or customized invoicing cycles.

  • Effective records management ensures that all stakeholders—individual users or corporate clients—have easy access to their data. This includes accessing past transaction records, fuel usage reports, or account management features.

Our Solution: Smooth Payments

To fulfill NAFT’s vision of a modern system that eliminates the use of papers, stamps and signatures for fuel transactions for customers, Objects integrated the most in-demand and convenient payments features.

  • SADAD

  • Credit Cards

  • HyperPay

  • Direct transfer

Objects also made sure that any orders with failed payments would not result in issuing of the products or services to the user, protecting NAFT assets from misuse and losses. Objects developers created a list of the canceled orders with a cronjob to notify the users of failed orders and requesting reordering.

The NAFT staff also receive a notification of any order failures on the website caused by their server being offline.

Every individual user and corporate Fleet Manager receives SMS and email notifications for each filling transaction on their accounts.

All security standards for financial transactions are built-in to the system by Objects.

Our Solution: Future-Proof

NAFT wished that each website user could purchase more than 100 products simultaneously. In other words, they wanted scalability. As a fuel station brand, every car on the road is a potential customer. Given the large volume of transactions the NAFT iPass system would be handling, it is essential to make it robust and flexible to unprecedented demand.

We built scalability into the NAFT iPass system in the following ways:

  • Cloud autoscaling

  • Backend microservices architecture

  • Database sharding

  • API Rate Limiting

  • Modular codebase

  • Asynchronous operations
